The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is an international leader in providing innovative services for people with MS and their families and advancing research into the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis.
Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for reviewing and finalizing the processing the accounting for chapters of the MS Society that have delegated their financial processing to the National Office, as well as the creation of annual budget templates, and the oversight and updating of cash flow documents for all locations across the country.
Responsibilities:
Review and approve the monthly processing of chapter financial activity, including analysis of balance sheet items and review of financial results
Respond to chapter queries and maintain ongoing dialogue with chapter treasurers and staff
Provide chapter treasurers and chapter staff with additional information required for special reporting
Maintain monthly cash flow spreadsheets for all chapter and division offices across the country
Responsible for the preparation of year end chapter financial statements, and to assist in the production of consolidated divisional and consolidated MS Canada financial statements
Reconcile payroll entries to the accounting system and oversee the allocation of salaries and benefits between departments
Provide hands-on training to new chapter treasurers
Assume a leadership role in various special projects as well as the establishment and monitoring of internal controls
Qualifications:
Must possess a college diploma or university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration, combined with enrolment at the intermediate level of the CGA or CMA program, or having equivalent experience
At least five years progressive experience in a service organization, preferably in a not-for-profit or charity environment. Experience working with volunteers in a not-for-profit or charitable organization would be an asset
Excellent computer skills with specific experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, accounting systems; and general computer aptitude are essential
Supervisory experience would be preferred, as would experience in working with multiple levels of staff, conflicting needs, and demands of various departments
Excellent organizational skills; attention to detail and deadline oriented
Strong verbal and written communication skills with superb interpersonal skills to communicate in a professional manner to internal and external stakeholders
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, displaying excellent time management skills
Ability to take initiative, problem solve, and exhibit good decision making skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
Location: Toronto with occasional travel in Canada

Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Clerk National Office
Permanent, full time

Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this position will be responsible for full cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable along with keying bank transfer information into the MS Society’s online banking system.
Responsibilities:
Review invoices and expense reports for proper completion, coding and authorization
Key accounts payable for divisions and chapter offices into the Society’s accounting system
Generate cheque runs and provide to signing officers
Investigate vendor transactions in the database.
Generate invoices for intercompany activity between MS Society offices
Apply payments against outstanding invoices in the accounting system
Assist with bank & balance sheet reconciliation using excel
Assist with the reconciliation of tax receipts issued from various locations
Qualifications:
At least 3 years working experience in full cycle accounts payable or accounts receivable is required
Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Excel and various Accounting Software
Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Strong organizational ability and attention to detail
Ability to solve problems and practice good decision-making
Strong communication skills both oral and written
Strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrates positive enthusiasm and is a self-starter
Willingness to participate and/or volunteer at MS Society fundraising events
